The 100% electric-powered Mitsubishi i has earned an EPA-rated 126 MPGe in city driving and 99 MPGe out on the highway (112 MPGe combined). Additionally, the EPA has also awarded the stylish and fun-to-drive electric vehicle (EV) a "real world" driving range of 62 miles.

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today reported June 2011 sales of 8,299 units, nearly doubling June 2010 sales with an increase of 97.7 percent. The increase continues a sales surge that, for the first six months of 2011, makes Mitsubishi the fastest growing automaker in the United States. NMKV Co., Ltd, a new joint venture formed by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation to develop minicars for the Japanese market, today announced an overview of its future business plans. The new joint venture was established and commenced operations on June 1, 2011, with 35 employees. NMKV Co., Ltd is based in Takanawa, Minato Ward, Tokyo.

Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) is expecting its profit would rise 28% this year led by rapid rebound in production and sales after the March 11 earthquake. The Japanese car maker expects to reach 90% of its pre-earthquake output level during the first half and exceeding plan for the second half of FY2011.

Mitsubishi is likely to offer a plug-in hybrid version of the compact ASX sports utility vehicle as its second electric vehicle, after the launch in New Zealand next month of the i-MiEV, the battery-powered version of the company's small iCity hatchback.
