Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) announced it will loan two of its zero-emission, new-generation, i-MiEVs to the State of California for evaluation in their test fleet. The electric-vehicle revolution is upon us--or at least, that's what manufacturers such as Mitsubishi would like us to believe. We've had plenty of exposure to EVs, including several short drives in Mitsubishi's first mass-production zero-emissions car, the i-MiEV. Japanese car maker Mitsubishi Motors plans to introduce its small all-electric i-MiEV car to the Chinese market by 2012 and may produce electric cars locally to benefit government subsidies, the company's president said recently, the Wall Street Journal reported. Read more.

GS Yuasa Corp., a Japanese lithium ion battery maker that has partnered with Mitsubishi and Honda, plans to open a fourth battery plant in 2012 to boost volume and cut costs. The factory will have battery capacity for 50,000 vehicles a year and will be operated by Lithium Energy Japan, GS Yuasa's battery joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors Corp. Read more.
